The cause is near and dear to both doctors’ hearts for many reasons. During Dr. Tim’s residency at the University of Iowa, he had the opportunity to treat many leukemia and lymphoma patients.
Right after a child is diagnosed, their medical team often wants them to get a dental exam and complete any necessary treatment before they begin chemotherapy or radiation. I had the opportunity to treat them during that time, and then again if dry mouth from their cancer treatments caused any decay. Seeing what those children go through and watching them fight for their lives was absolutely life changing for me." - Dr. Tim Brister
Dr. Tenney also treated cancer patients during her residency at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas. Last year, Dr. Tenney’s father was diagnosed with leukemia, bringing the cause even closer to home. Because of the impact it has had on her life both personally and professionally, she and her husband have participated in two running events to raise money for leukemia and lymphoma research, and she is thrilled to be a part of this event.
I did rotations at Children’s Hospital and Scottish Rite, and I treated many pediatric cancer patients. As heartbreaking as it was, it was a very rewarding experience that I’ll never forget.” - Dr. Jodi Tenney
