Team in Training / The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

In the Spring of 2011, I received a pamphlet in the mail from Team in Training/Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It was an appeal to train for an endurance event while raising money for blood cancer patients and research. I held on to that pamphlet for at least a month, and each time I looked at it I was reminded of my high school friend whose daughter, the same age as my oldest daughter, had suffered through the diagnosis and treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. My brother-in-law had recently lost his 17-year-old brother to leukemia, and a friend of my mother had recently lost her 3-year-old daughter to the same awful disease. While I was intrigued at taking on the challenge of running a marathon, the opportunity to take part in fighting this awful disease prompted me to sign myself up with Team in Training.

Team in Training/The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is an incredible organization that contributes vital funds towards research for a cure and patient aid and support services. In training for my first marathon last Fall, I had the privilege of running alongside Leukemia survivors, and parents of blood cancer patients. These amazing people inspired me not only to keep on running, but also to continue raising money for this worthy cause.

A year later, I am training again, and will return to San Francisco to run the Nike Women’s Marathon—a race that benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. My method of fundraising this year: Concert for a Cure, sponsored by Texas Pediatric Dentistry. Be sure to purchase your tickets early, as there are a limited number of seats. The Lauren Savoy Olinde Foundation

In addition to my friends and family members affected by Leukemia, we also just lost our sweet, young, precious family member to melanoma this past January. Lauren was and continues to be a beautiful inspiration to me. If you'd like to visit and/or make a donation to her foundation, please CLICK HERE.
I pray that a CURE is found very soon, so that cancer can cause NO MORE suffering and loss to families!!!!
